Privacy Policy

The short version

If you use Scriber without an account, your transcripts are not stored. If you sign in, they are saved to your account so you can find them again, and you can delete any of them at any time. We do not sell data, we do not run ads, and we do not track you across other websites.

Using Scriber without an account

You get 3 transcripts without signing up. To make that work we set one cookie containing a random session token. It identifies your browser so we can count how many free transcripts it has used and apply any credits you buy. It is not linked to a name or an email address, and it is not used for advertising.

We store that token, the number of free transcripts used, and any credit or subscription balance. We do not store the transcripts themselves. The text is produced, sent to your browser, and discarded. While a longer transcription is running, the result is held briefly so it can be delivered to you, then cleared once you have received it.

If you create an account

Signing in is by email link, so we store your email address. There is no password to store. Sign-in links can be used once and expire after 30 minutes.

From then on, transcripts you generate are saved to your account: the text, its timings, the video title and the video's YouTube id. You can delete any of them from your history, which removes them from our systems. If you want the whole account and everything in it deleted, ask and it will be done.

Payments

Payments are processed by Stripe. Card numbers never reach our servers and we never see them. We store the customer and subscription identifiers Stripe gives us, so we know what you are entitled to.

Which other services see your data

Transcribing a video means other companies are involved. In plain terms:

• YouTube.We request the video's captions or audio from YouTube using the link you paste.
• A residential proxy provider.YouTube blocks requests from our server's address for audio, so those requests are routed through a proxy service. It carries the video request, not anything about you.
• Groq. When a video has no captions, its audio is sent to Groq to be transcribed.
• AssemblyAI. When you ask for speaker labels, the audio is sent to AssemblyAI instead, because that is what can tell speakers apart.
• Resend. Sends sign-in links and contact messages. It handles your email address.
• Stripe. Handles payment, as above.
• Railway. Hosts the application and its database.

Several of these are based outside the European Union, so using Scriber involves your data being processed outside the EU.

Analytics

We use Umami to count page views and see which pages people arrive on. It does not use cookies, does not follow you to other sites, and does not build a profile of you. That is why there is no cookie banner.

How long things are kept

• Sign-in links: 30 minutes, and deleted once used.
• In-progress transcription jobs: cleared as soon as the result reaches you, and swept within 24 hours regardless.
• Session cookies and usage counters: up to a year, or until you sign out.
• Saved transcripts: until you delete them.

Your choices

You can use Scriber without an account, in which case nothing you transcribe is stored. You can delete any saved transcript from your history. You can sign out, which ends the session. You can ask for a copy of what we hold about you, or for it all to be deleted, by getting in touch.

Content you submit

You are responsible for having the right to transcribe what you submit, as set out in the Terms.
